I heard through the grapevine last night that the course owner is so desperate for business that he's actively poaching clubhouse customers from the closest pub.
Maybe he'll stand you the first drink free, too.
A regular quip to my Democratic friends who golf: "Golf is a Republican sport."
Mark Twain put it well describing golf as "a good walk spoiled."

Golf could and should be a sport that protects spaces; it didn't originate on pampered, polished places but on wild, wide open spreads in Scotland. It should still be played in such places, might level the playing field among players.
Further, no sport should be co-opted by gender and race. Golf may have originated among Scottish men, but there is no good reason why anyone and everyone can't play.
Red golf shoes.
Perhaps a bit more sportif than those stylin' Prada loafers Benny wears, but still...red.
You can play into your old age.
Ostensibly, you play against your own best performance.
Like meditation, golf requires you to quiet "monkey mind."
