The Michigan Messenger: Granholm bets on a golf resort, but there are plenty of hazards

The upside? There has to be an upside here but all I can think of is no need to reserve a tee time.

Yup Call down to my neighborhood clubhouse now, bet that you can walk on right now.

I heard through the grapevine last night that the course owner is so desperate for business that he's actively poaching clubhouse customers from the closest pub.

Maybe he'll stand you the first drink free, too.

Golf is a Republican sport. What's Mark Twain's view? Mother Earth is probably dismayed by the destruction of natural landscape and toxic doses of chemicals which come with golf course development and maintenance. The sting of millions of golf balls launched into her "sweet flowing breast," as Kilmer put it, must seem like lice to her.

A regular quip to my Democratic friends who golf:  "Golf is a Republican sport."

Mark Twain put it well describing golf as "a good walk spoiled."

Yield no sport No sport should be co-opted by politics.

Golf could and should be a sport that protects spaces; it didn't originate on pampered, polished places but on wild, wide open spreads in Scotland.  It should still be played in such places, might level the playing field among players.

Further, no sport should be co-opted by gender and race.  Golf may have originated among Scottish men, but there is no good reason why anyone and everyone can't play.

No reason anyone can't play Being as I have the fashion commentary earlier, I should note I could never be caught on the greens of the local golf course wearing those hideous golfing outfits. There is the real limitation of golfing. Remember when Chi Chi LaRue tried to sue over a drag queen using his name in To Wong Fu... need we explain any further?

Look what I found Just for you and your peep, Pope Benny:

    Red golf shoes.

Perhaps a bit more sportif than those stylin' Prada loafers Benny wears, but still...red.

Golf is a beautiful sport No politics in golf!

You can play into your old age.

Ostensibly, you play against your own best performance.

Like meditation, golf requires you to quiet "monkey mind."

    See ball; hit ball.

    It is a beautiful thing.

    Try it some time.
